Hello Anyone... [Feb. 16th, 2011|09:12 am]
Home for the Old Folks...

There seems to be a shortage in Live Journal of people who dare to admit to being old... or perhaps they're being shy?

Have no fear if you enter here and find no "company" here. If you make a post here it will appear on my regular journal's friend's list and I will come running to welcome you.

Hello everyone. I'd like to report right off the bat that I am going to be fifty-six years old in April. I hope it doesn't matter that I technically don't fall into the profile. Most days I feel like I do though!

1. Tell us a little about yourself?
I'm a wife of thirty-five years, mother of two grown men and a grandmother.  I am presently enjoying my second childhood and much more so than my first because now I have the financial ability to buy whatever toys I want! I enjoy antiquing, thrift store and yard sale shopping. I  also have a love of books.  I collect miniature dolls primarily of the Victorian and Edwardian styles.  I, after years of living with an all man cast and adjusting my decorating tastes to their sensibilities, I have revolted and am expressing my feminine tastes through out our apartment. I love cottage and shabby chic style of decorating and have started a LJ community named.

cottagestyle

It's also obvious that I am not all that LJ literate. I couldn't get that link to go after the word named. :)

2. How you came to be here?
To this community? I entered aging in the Interests box and voila! there you all were.

3. And what are your interests?
Please see question one and my profile.

4. Why did you join our little band?
I'd like to be around people who are near to my own age and have actually listened to the Andrew Sisters as a child and know that Rawhide was a television show and not a type of leather.

5. Which room would you like? Not to worry. It’s all free! Just tell us what you like, please.
The one with a sunny view of the garden. Smile here, the show Waiting For God just popped into my head. I might be a Miss Trent-type.

6. And you get your own car. It’s only a Civic but it has a sunroof. What color would you like?
I've never had a driver's license, but if it comes in olive it will be chauffeured by my dear husband.

7. And how many unobtrusive servants would you like?
Not a one, I enjoy homemaking and I like my relative privacy. You know, even an unobtrusive listens at doors! :)

1. Tell us a little about yourself?  I'm retired, living alone in Boston, 67 years of age.  I have a son living on the West Coast, and a future daughter in law.
2. And how you came to be here? I joined this community in the hope of finding older LJ friends on line with whom I would have things in common.
3. And what are your interests? Reading, writing, photography, nature study, fine art Museums, beachwalking, city walks, etc.
4. Why did you join our little band? As I said above, I was looking for a group of people near my own age.
5. Which room would you like? Library.
6. And you get your own car.   No car, please.  There's no place to park it in my neighborhood, and no need to own one because I can walk most places.  For longer treks there is great public transportation.
7. And how many unobtrusive servants would you like? Hmm, I guess I'd like a masseuse who would give massages whenever I wanted, and someone to come in once a week, clean and do laundry and cook a week's worth of meals for my freezer.  Oh, and my own hairdresser and manicurist who would make house calls.

The userpic was taken on board a tall ship on the Fourth of July a couple of years ago.  We went out under sail for two hours into deep water and I loved every minute of it.  I plan to take other short cruises as I find them and as they are affordable.
I also love riding railroads, and have recently come upon "The Waybill", A newsletter for railroading and boat trip enthusiasts.  They offer many overnight trips in the $50-$60 range which include bus transport, lodging, one or two meals, and a train and/or boat trip at the destination.  I can hardly wait for summer to try out this new adventure!

1. Tell us a little about yourself? I'm a 61 year young graphic designer living on the East Coast with a hubby, a cat and a newly empty nest. I'm a somewhat mouthy Unitarian liberal feminist (isn't all that multi-redundant!?) who enjoys reading, writing, movies and a good debate.

(We’d like to know your age but won’t pressure you to divulge it. We are hoping to establish how many older Ljers there are and how old they are. Perhaps later we will have a ceremony and give out some useless and meaningless awards.)

2. And how you came to be here? My darling daughter lives on LiveJournal with her friends from college and I enjoy peeking at their journals so much that I decided to build one of my own with people my own age.

3. And what are your interests? See #1 above and also things Celtic, the awesome Boston Red Sox, the West Wing, knitting, Women's Circles, Anne Lamott and Starhawk.

4. Why did you join our little band? There aren't too many communities in LJ that specifically target those "of a certain age", so I decided to begin here on my quest for LJ friends.

5. Which room would you like? Not to worry. It’s all free! Just tell us what you like, please. Never the kitchen, perhaps the Library or the Media room.

6. And you get your own car. It’s only a Civic but it has a sunroof. What color would you like? Hey, "only a Civic" ! I've got an peppy 07 graphite grey Civic and I love it.....gotta be manual and it GOES!

7. And how many unobtrusive servants would you like? Hmmm......no thanks, if I can't do it myself why bother?

We over 60's are very rare birds here, indeed.  But I am attempting to make myself keep a journal, and I think this may be a good way to do it.  A little peer pressure might hold me accountable!

I was born October 20, 1943 for those who want to know my age.  I'll post more later...  later...  later...
